...First I would reduce the number of colors in the original image if possible. It will make your projects far easier when you are first learning.. The auto digitizers get all carried away and think we all have a zillion spools of thread and days to spend re-threading our machines I think lol.
I opened your design in my digitizer and what I did for a quick fix was to reduce the number of color changes... I used 'auto-arrange embroidery order'. Or you can try selecting each color and dragging and dropping them together so you don't have to re-thread you machine 34 times. With my programs I have a step by step film strip feature that shows what steps it takes to sew things out. It is sort of like knowing how to sew a dress together.... experience makes it easy but you still have to follow a certain process or the colors go together all wrong. I am not sure how your digitizer does all of this...
I tried to fix and save your design and post it back for you here but my program will not generate all the proper stitches... I think some area of your design are 'locked' so my program cannot make the necessary changes for you...sorry... I tried...
I think the best advise I can give someone who is learning to digitize is to learn to use all the manual features of your digitizer first... Then you can make adjustments or fixes even if you regularly use an auto digitizer to create designs... All of the auto digitizer programs make mistakes sometimes but you need to know how to un-do them... I know auto-digitizing is tempting.. but I know you are smart enough to figure this all out manually too... Just be patient with yourself!

Thirty four color changes? Ooh, ouch! That's auto-digitizing for you, unfortunately. I will see if I can simplify it for you, when I have a moment. Stop laughing. It might happen . . . before 2011. Really, it might!
When doing autodigitizing, you need to make sure that there are as few colors as possible in the clip art before you even start. Also, using vector images (like WMF) instead of rastor images (like jpg, bmp or gif) will help a lot.
OK, I've gotten in down to 12 colors. It will still be a bear to stitch out (lots of strange jumps and such) but it would probably at least be do-able now.
