I'm looking for recommendations on favored brands and types of stablizers for various projects. I thought for sure there would be something on this website, but I'm not able to find it.

If insights on stabilizers already exist on this website, I'd appreciate a clue as to where to look. But if they don't I'd like to hear everyone's insights on favorite brands/types of stabilizers for various projects.

I'm currently compiling insights and would be happy to post on this site, if others want to contribute their perspective, and an publication of consolidated perspectives would be appropriate.

Cheers,

Darlene Simmons

Dsimmons, just a quick note Very Happy My Janome dealer is now carrying Floriani products, both their thread and stabilizers. I adore both products. Floriani has such a wide variety of stabilizers for every occasion, and I'm especially fond of 'heat n gone', their clear topping. You don't have to hoop the whole big piece, just tape it onto the top of the fabric in the area where the design is going to be sewn out. On especially nappy fabrics, such as toweling, it keeps the nap in place better than a wash away stabilizer, because it doesn't wash out. You just take your iron and touch the visible parts, after tearing most of it away from the edges, and it disappears! And, no, it leaves absolutely no residue on the iron or the fabric. The great part is that it stays under the threads where it is not touched by the iron (even if you iron over the threads) and keeps the nap down. It seems a bit expensive, but when you realize you don't have to hoop the whole thing, only a little piece over where the stitching will be, it really isn't. I have had my small roll for quite some time now, and I love it.

I went to a Floriani Stabilizer and Fuwari seminar, I'd be happy to type up notes in Word and e-mail them to you as an attachment for your information, if you like. Let me know. Hope this helps,
Marji

Marji --
That sounds like a great idea!

Why don't you submit it as an article? You might get paid $20. I think it would be great.

Susan

P.S. I'm so glad the articles are back. I really learned a lot from Mary Catherine McCoy's articles.
