I understand that you are using placeholders when someone's wish is auto granted by the hourly random free design. However, when mine came up, I didn't notice. I wasn't online. Is there some way to down load all the hourlies without being on line?

Dea Ann

Moderator answer:

As far as I know, there is no way to download the hourlies without being online for it. They are only available for that hour and if you don't catch them, you just miss out. Sorry about that.

If you were to have some sort of computer program that would check each hour and download the design for you . . . but I've never heard of such a thing outside of my wild imagination. Laughing

OH! I just noticed something that I somehow overlooked before: We do NOT change requests to place holders just because that design was offered for free in the design hunt or the hourly freebie (or as Dea Ann put it, "auto-granted"). We only put up placeholders when the requested design has been the DAILY free design, and then the requester moves to the bottom of the list again and the place holder is so that they keep their place in line while they decide on a new request.

By the way, everyone, I have been playing around with the "ranks", which are the little descriptions below your names. If you would like something different/specific for yourself, or if you would like to "nominate" someone else for a special rank, just let me know.

So far, being a Queen is the "in" thing. Laughing

Marji has become The Cat Queen.
Stacylynn has become The Horse Queen.
Quiltersblock has become Wishlist Link Queen.
Twinsplus1 has become Mommy-Queen.
Silver has become Queen Bee Moderator's Assistant.

Screenbags,

Why don't you post your comments to this group? Or send the emails to me; you can use either of the emails you have for me to do that. I don't check this every day. I just happened to be at the computer today.

I pm'd Margi with wish-posting instructions, and I'm thinking of posting that here as well. At least that would give everyone a heads-up on kind of what's expected and then maybe we can wrangle the wishes every other day or something. I get emails when something is posted here so I can check, but sometimes I'm not at the computer to do that. What do you think of that solution?

Don't know if I'll be posting for the rest of the evening or not. It's incredibly and unseasonably hot and humid here and I'm thinking of escaping to Puget Sound for the evening. My poor desktop computer will just have to stay in my office.

I'll check my email once before bedtime.

Welcome back, CutiePie, even if only temporarily!!! Hope you get your computer fixed quick, what happened, did the new high-speed connection confuse it? Giggle, snork. Very Happy Very Happy Hope everything is closer to normal at your house now with the KiddiePies and such. Well, maybe I should wish for "good", not "normal", if your life is like mine, hee hee hee Shocked Shocked Thanks for deleting all the stuff.

Wishlist placeholders: um, one reminder and back to the bottom. It's a free design, if ya don't want it bad enough to get your ducks in order after one reminder (and I like reminders, because I don't always look far down the list, only at what the wishes are), then when you get close to the top with no wish, back to the bottom! Off with her head! Hee hee hee. Really, Susan or you shouldn't have to bug people to make wishes. I'm glad they continue to vote for the list with us, but perhaps they've purchased memberships, or gotten what they wanted on sale, and just want to stay in the system in case a wish pops up for them. I don't think we should just 'delete' people, unless they ask to be, but don't think they need to be begged to make a wish, either. Oh, it's early for me, I hope this makes sense.

Luv & good stitches,
Marji

PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:13 pm    Post subject: How to Make a Wish in cut and paste form Reply with quote

Here are some step-by-step directions on how to make a wish in cut and paste format. I'll still try to scan the forum every week or so and try to post cut and paste format for those who need help. Hope this helps.
Hugs and Smiles, quiltersblock

1. Find the design you want

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Vote for design”
OR
On the Design Sets Page look to the right and click on “Vote for a design”

3. Go to the address bar at the top of your web browser. This is where you will see the hypertext transfer protocol or http. This is the address or URL for the page. Click inside the address bar so that your cursor appears in it. The correct URL will have “votedesigns” in it.

4. Do a select all by holding down the control key (CTRL) and the a key (CTRL A) at the same time.

5. Once the address is selected (everything in the address is highlighted), then hold down the control key (CTRL) and the c key (CTRL C) to copy the address or URL.

6. Go to the Wishlist section of the Daily Free PES on the Forums page. Click on New Topic

7. A window will open for you to insert a message. Click inside the message box and then hit Enter a few times to leave yourself some space for adding text above.

8. Do a Paste by holding down the control key (CTRL) and the v key (CTRL V) to paste the web address or URL to the message. This is how people will know where to look for your design request.

9. At the end of this line, hit the Enter key to go to the next line. Type in “req’d by” and your name. This tells everyone who is requesting the design.

10. Use the arrow key on your keyboard that points up to go to the line above the URL you copied and pasted in. Now you are going to tell people what you want.

11. Type in the name of the design as it appears at the top of the design page you wanted - such as Jacobean Butterflies 2 or JN Cars.
Add the number of the design you wanted at the end of the Design name such as 4 or 301.
Use a comma or dash to separate the design name and number from the specific information, such as a descriptive note or the actual design name and number given on the design page; you can find this information under the design you want.
Examples would be: flyingjacobeanducks 10, gardenalphal, or JSF01.
You want to be as specific as possible so no one is confused, but you don’t want to overload anyone with information.
Basically you want the info from the title of the page, the number or identifier of the design, then a dash or comma or colon and the name/number that appears under the specific design you want.
Examples are: Satin Stitch Roses #9 - 44ss09,
Jacobean Violets #9 - jbviolets94x4,
RW Ashley Sewing #6 (with kitty) - rwashley06,
Dream Catcher 5x5 #8 - 5x5dreamcatcher08 (Note: 5x5 size), etc.

12. Use the arrow key on your keyboard that points up to go to the top of your message and politely ask for what you want.
Leave at least one line between your statement and your actual formatted request so that the person who is doing the copy and paste into the actual list has an easier time of spotting it and copying it.

13. You may choose to sign the request after leaving a space following your actual formatted request.

14. Move your cursor to the subject line. Type “New Wish – cut and paste” or “Amended Wish – cut and paste” so that it is easily spotted. Only put “cut and paste” in the subject line if it is in the correct form to cut and paste. You may wish to add your name to the wish portion of the subject. It might look like Bubba’s New Wish – cut and paste OR Amended Wish for Bubba – cut and paste.

15. Your request in the message body should look like this:
NAME OF DESIGN # - DESIGN IDENTIFIER
URL of vote design page (it will say “votedesigns” within the URL)
“Req’d by” YOUR NAME

The Name of the Design is what appears as the title of the page. The Design Identifier is the name/number below the specific design you want.

Note: You can also simply cut and paste one of the forms – such as your placeholder – from the list, and then cut and paste the URL from the votedesigns page into the area reserved for the URL. Then you only have to type in your name (if it isn’t already there) and the design request, number, and specifics.

Attempting to put it in this format is greatly appreciated. If you have trouble, ask. I or someone else will help you or will put it in the correct format for you. This is a very friendly and helpful group.

Susan...
Everything you all do here is a *plus* for us forum members. I am sure we all understand that you all have lives outside of the group. There is never a need for you to apologize but the fact that you took the time to address this tiny oversight just shows the kind of above average character the people 'behind the scenes' here have.
I just wanted to say thanks for all you do and most especially for having patience with us... the forum members...
Your efforts certainly are appreciated!

I couldn't have said it better, Silver! Thank you Susan and CutiePie!! And thanks to Quiltersblock for putting up the directions to make the cut & paste process easier, and doing it for the ones who can't do it for themselves. Such willingness to share time & effort from ALL of you, including Silver, is great!!! Very Happy
Many big hugs,

mumbeeni -

As far as "deleting a lot of requests", please let me explain a little bit about how I update the wishlist. Actually, I don't delete any requests. When a new wish is made, it goes at the bottom of the list. As wishes are granted, the wisher's name is moved from the top of the list to the bottom with a marker to hold her (or his) place in the queue. I decided to call that marker a 'place holder'.

The wisher's name and place holder moves up the list as other wishes --from the top of the list -- are granted. When a wisher decides upon a new design for her (or his) wish, then I edit the list and swap out the 'place holder' with the design's name including the design collection's name plus a link for ease of voting.

I don't keep a list of wishes that are granted, but I think exactly the same design has been requested by different wishers, and been granted again. And that's great. It means a new wisher can ask for anything. No one is going to say, "Oh, we already voted for that."

I have started moving OLD 'place holders' to the bottom of the list (but I didn't delete them). By OLD I mean, there were some 'place holders' at the top of the list for almost 2 weeks. I've begged and pleaded for the individual wishers to let me know what they want. I've sent as many as 3 private messages to wish list members with 'place holders' as the top. Finally, I had to move them to the bottom of the list.

Well, that's how I do it. Please remember, there are also 2 Moderators (Cutie Pie and Neaux Bunny) who work tirelessly to manage the entire Forum. And they can edit, change, or delete anything on any posting, including the wishlist. I know I greatly appreciate their help in cleaning up the Forum, the messages, and all the general housekeeping.

Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps explain how I edit the wishlist.

Susan

No problem. Glad to help.

I'm wondering - do we want to have people just post to this list or to the whole section? In other words, are things working the way they've been going? Or are we missing some occasionally when they're not in this specific thread? I know Marji was kind enough to catch at least one and post it to this thread. I'd hate to miss somebody's wish.
Opinions?

I know that I prefer the requests to be made within this thread, but I do keep an eye on all new posts, so I usually catch the requests even if they are put up somewhere else.

Good morning, all! Very Happy

My preference is to post requests within this thread, but sometimes new people don't quite understand the forum. I don't mind going thru and 'catching' wishes the new folks might post elsewhere, along with Cutiepie. I prowl thru all the new questions almost every day anyway, because I'm handicapped & have the time. If I can 'recruit' new people to the list, it's my pleasure Very Happy But I do think that those of us already on the list should post here.

Have a beautiful day!!

quiltersblock --

Thank you so much for 'translating' the wishes. It saves so much time, and I just don't have as much time as I had previously when I could monitor the list at least once a day.

As far as where folks should post their wish, my preference is on the wishlist. I do try to check other threads under The Daily Free PES, but sometimes it might be days before I see it. I do respond to Private Messages but I guess that's because I get a gentle reminder in my e-mail.

Anyway, it looks like the wishlist has survived a few bumps along the way but it's still serving its purpose: bringing everyone together to help fulfill each other's wishes.
