Hi as i have been sewing lot of fsl for christmas presents etc. Does anyone know any use for all the left over scraps . Or do i just throw them away ? Thanks Yancy,

Some folks like to take the scraps, put them in a spray bottle, add water, and create a 'spray-on stabilizer'.

There's no real recipe. It depends upon the amount of scraps you have, and if they are regular Solvy, Super Solvy, Ultra Solvy, or some other type of water-soluble-stabilizer (WSS).

It takes a little trial and error. After you get a consistency you like, you can use it like some of the comercial spray-on stabilizers. (It's not exactly the same as the commercial varieties, but the price is right.)

I save my scraps (all but the smallest) to float over the top when I am sewing on something with a pile to it, like fleece or a towel. You don't need a piece as large as the entire hoop, just large enough to cover the design itself, and it will keep the design from "sinking in" to the material (which would make it tend to "disappear"). The very smallest pieces, I keep together and mix with water to make a "stiffener" for my FSL pieces. If you should have to wash one, or you rinse out too much of the stabilizer, you will be left with a limp lace piece. I just use the WSS/water mix as an alternative to starch or whatever.

For FSL my preferred stablizer is the fabric type...some places down here call if WSS vilene....I find it holds together better when the lace is stitching out and if the design is very intense I use 2 layers. The scraps can be stitched together with solvy thread using a zig-zag stitch making a piece big enough to fit the hoop. The solvy thread can be purchased at most 'spotlight' stores.

The 'plastic' type solvy scraps I use the same as cutiepie.....to lay over fabric with a pile such as fleece or towels.....I found it useless for making lace.....gave way before the design was completed even with 2+ layers used.
