Some interesting questions, even if I'm not completely sure exactly what you are asking. Are you doing manual punch digitizing or autodigitizing? It makes a big difference in what type of art is going to work for you. Autodigitizing needs the image to be much cleaner and simpler than a manual digitizing image needs to be. I have tried both, and will NEVER autodigitize again, if I have any say in the matter. The results are just that much better with the manual digitizing, no matter how great the autodigitizer program is supposed to be.

When I am drawing my own art to digitize, I have used a pencil, a ball point pen, a felt tip pen, or one of several computer drawing programs. Yes, I have even used Microsoft Paint (that very simple graphics program that comes with every Microsoft operating system). For paper, I usually just use plain printer paper. I don't understand what you mean by the paper or pen seeming to 'run'.

As for how I get them into my program, I either save it as a .jpg if I created it on the computer, I scan it in with my scanner and save it as a .jpg, or if it is clip-art that I purchased from somewhere, I get it in .jpg format. I prefer the .jpg format because it takes up so much less space than a .bmp for instance.

Hello, I use a type of paper that is called : Natural Tracing paper.
In French : Papier Calque.
The brand is Schoellershammer
It is a semi transparent sort of paper that feels a bit fatty. It is quite sturdy. It looks a bit like the paper you use for baking.
It doesn't run and because it is transparent you can use it for tracing all kinds of drawings.

Hope you can get it in your country.
