Dear Michele.

Thanks so much for the letter you sent to Desigsbysick. My
husband purchased me a Janome Embroidery machine for Christmas Dec. 2006. It was a demo. I was like you and was dreaming how nice it would be to have an embroidery machine. We are in the middle of building a house and just couldn't justify it. My husband had a chance to see how our neighburs machine worked and became very interesed in it. He is very interestind in the computer end of it with all the progams and things. He was the one that had to have the machine. We have both, him more so then me have had lots of fun trying new and great patterns.
We have come across all the things that you mentioned in your letter and
have come to realize that there is so much more to it all.It is all a
learning experience. Thanks for all your great ideas and Happy Embroidering.

Yours truly Sandra and Doug Martin.Pinantan Lake. B.C. Canada

Hi Michelle
reading your letter I kept saying "just like me!"
I did the research and decided on my machine, then purchased a demonstration model. Searched the internet for lessons, joined lots of groups... found the freebies!!! ... became addicted and had to have them all. I spent so much time downloading freebies and purchasing lots, plus reading all the mail from the groups I didn't have any time left to sew... or eat... or sleep.
I decided to stay off the computer for a week and get some practice in. My next problem was deciding what to start with. I had so many designs that I really wanted to try...but, there were so many designs on my PC that I couldn't find them!! So I went on the PC again to download a freebie that I really liked and set of to embroider it.
I had purchased a pack of stabilisers off ebay, which I thought was very reasonable in price, and would give me a sample of each type. However when they arrived there were a few sheets of each type but with no indication of which was which. I had to purchase more and label them.
I would advise anyone just starting out to take ziplock bags with you when purchasing stabilisers and write the type on the bag while you are still in the shop.
I bought a bolt of white cotton and cut it up into squares, worked out how to stabilise that and then embroidered lots of samples. Next I bought T-shirt cotton and practiced to get the stabilizing etc right. I went through all the different materials I wanted to use until I was confident and always had my friends on the internet to ask when things didn't go right.
I am now very much in love with my machine.
I still have loads of designs on my PC which I am slowly going through and cataloging and yes I am deleting ones that I look at and think What!! so hope fully in the next year I can find everything I want.
Now I can have my machine sewing at the side of my PC so I can talk to my friends on the forums and happily embroider at the same time.

Hello everyone! I am new to this group. I have been doing needlework
since I was a little kid but yesterday an embroidery machine arrived
at my house. Hubby bought it. I needed a new sewing machine and he
wanted an embroidery machine so that we could make some money with
it. That remains to be seen but it means that I got an embroidery
machine, so I don't care why he bought it. He's even learning to use
it so that he can help do projects for money. I thoroughly enjoyed
the newsletter that I received today. I actually read it from top to
bottom which I rarely do with other newsletters.
