DD = Digitizing Diva
I understand these design collections were created by another website, and later acquired by DesignsBySiCk.com

FSL = free standing lace
That's a generic term used in the machine embroidery world. There's a lot more about it in the articles section of the website.

Specifically, FSL is discussed here:

Excellent (and correct) answers, ScreenBags.

Digitizing Diva is a digitizer who sold her collection to Shawn here at DesignsbySick. She has continued to make more collections that are also available here, but not marked with the DD prefix.

Here is some more information about FSL: it is a designation to separate supported lace (that which must be sewn onto fabric of some sort) from the type that can "stand free", or in other words, lace that you can stitch out on Water-Soluble Stabilizer (also known as WSS) and then when the stabilizer is rinsed away, the integrity of the lace is such that it doesn't fall apart. Were you to try and stitch out supported lace (most any lace design that doesn't specify "FSL") on WSS and then rinsed it, you would likely end up with just a tangle of thread, although portions of it may retain its shape.

I hope you have fun with the designs, and feel free to ask questions anytime something comes up that you don't understand. We all started there at one point in time. Laughing
