It just depends on the machine itself, especially the hoop size, and that information will be in your user's manual. The SEW format is for a smaller hoop, I believe. _________________ -Forum Moderator-

JEF is a newer Janome format, some older machines (like the 9000 and back) will not accepts JEF but newer ones, last I heard, all accept SEW. The biggest issue I saw was that the SEW format limits the number of stitches you can use in one design so often a single large design will be split into two designs, part 'A' and part 'B', some stitches/colors in one, the rest in the second one. If you have a machine that uses both I would download JEF myself and save some headaches and file space. Most 'older' Janome machines limit not only the file size but the number of total designs it can have/see on the machine itself or how many you can access on a pcm-cia / flash memory card.

Wonderful information, Silver. Thank you for "speaking" up about it. My knowledge in this case was apparently rather limited. _________________ -Forum Moderator-

One thing I have found about me being a 'font of seemingly useless knowledge' is that I can usually find a niche where some of it may help at least a person or two! At least I can serve some small purpose here.
Your info was correct as well. Having had a Janome and a dealer who did not support me I learned many lessons the 'hard way' so I figure why not share?
