Last night, during the 25 cent sale, I got some of those coin purses and the zipper pattern. There aren't any directions. Has anyone already done these? I am wondering how you make sure you don't embroider over the zipper, as that would be disastrous.

I can hardly wait to stitch these, but I have to get some little zippers first.

Thanks to a reply over at Sew Forum, I noticed the instructions for the various projects have a link on the left side of the page. That is where I got these instructions for the coin bags:

Zippered Animal Coin Bags

4- 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 pieces of material
tearaway stabilizer
plastic zipper 7 inches long
stitch the zipper side first
1. stitching line for zipper, lay the zipper face up on line (I
use tape to hold in place)
Don’t let any metal parts of the zipper near the line.
2. lay one 4 1/2 block folded in half on the stitching line. Tape
in place.
3. repeat #2 with the other side of the zipper
4. tear away from stabilizer
5. lay one of the 4 1/2 blocks sprayed with fast tack (or whatever
you use) and stitch out the design
6. lay a 4 1/2 block on the underside of your hoop (this is for the lining)
7. unzip the zipper half way or where ever placement works
8. lay upside down on top, and tape in place
9. stitch final stitching around design
10.tear away from the stabilizer, an trim close to the stitching line
Turn right side out.
Enjoy!

PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 3:43 pm    Post subject: Bear change purse zipper file? Reply with quote

I read on another forum that there is a separate file for the BACK of the change purse to insert the zipper. Does anybody know anything about that?

Thanks,
Mindy

(My daughter is practically hyperventilating that I have the design and haven't made the purse yet.)

That is correct, there is a separate file for the zipper placement. I am trying to find out if I can offer that to people who want it or what is going to be done, since it is kind of necessary to complete the project. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything, ok?

IMHO, the next time this set is available, people should vote for the zipper placement pattern. It is the one that is basically 3 lines. It is the same back for all the designs. I think a person could put a zipper in the regular, old fashioned way, but it would be much more difficult and maybe not the right size. I purchased the entire set during the .25 sale, but I have not done the zipper as I have to get to town and get some. Last night, I stitched one out anyway and just left an opening to put a snap because I was eager to see how it would look.

I may have missed a post, but why were these revised? I haven't had a chance to stitch one out yet. I have the set due to membership. I looked and my original folder has the zipper placement thing. But I think there may have been some other issue with the zipper or something from the title of the new collection. Just curious.

You didn't miss a specific post, Cari. The "problem" was that the zipper file was separate from the coin bag front, so it wasn't included when the coin bags were voted in as the daily freebie. So, Shawn had it "fixed" so that it will now be included with the front when one of them is a freebie. Very Happy
